There are many reasons to take part in the Bright Minds Challenge Challenge - we've boiled it down to our Top 5!
Together we’ll fast-forward societal progress and solve the most important issues facing the world today
Through our Science Can Change the World movement we have highlighted and celebrated the unsung heroes of science – innovators working around the world, often alone, often lacking the resources, support and encouragement they need to put their solutions into practice, but carrying on. Changing the world in small but significant ways.
Now we want to do more than highlight these heroes. Now we want to help new heroes put their solutions into practice, by working collaboratively across DSM and with partners to provide the support they need to bring their solutions to scale. Watch the movie.
It’s time for the Bright Minds Challenge
DSM and partners are launching the Bright Minds Challenge – accelerating the scaling up and wide adoption of emerging solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. For the inaugural Bright Minds Challenge, we’re focusing on renewable energy solutions that are ready to scale, with a specific focus on solar and energy storage solutions. And we’re here to support your solutions – you retain the intellectual property rights to your technology.
Why start with renewables?
Addressing human-made climate change is critically important, because this planet-sized problem potentially impacts every aspect of life for every living creature on earth.
- It produces extreme weather conditions that pose a risk to homes, farms and factories worldwide.
- The effects of air pollution on human health and the environment have economic impacts.
- It makes it harder to find ways of growing the extra food we will need to feed earth’s estimated 9 billion inhabitants by 2050.
- It has a negative impact on biodiversity – the delicate balance that supports ‘business as usual’ for mother nature.
Solar and energy storage are ripe for innovation and entrepreneurship. We believe these technologies – especially when scaled up together – represent one of the best shots at taking carbon out of the power grid and thus tackling climate change.
New solar and energy storage solutions also have great potential to brighten the lives of people in remote places and cities all over the world. Facilitating health, nutrition and economic development.
We’re convinced that the technologies we need to get to 100% renewable energy already exist. And that by working together in new ways, we can get them to market much faster.
